Rebuilding Designtex.com with BigCommerce and WordPress, ERP Integration, Custom Visualization, and Advanced Product Configurator

The Challenge

Designtex, known for its innovative textile designs and commitment to quality, needed a new digital platform to match its cutting-edge brand. Their existing site struggled to support their growing needs, so Command C was employed to rebuild Designtex.com on BigCommerce, leveraging the flexibility of WordPress as CMS to expand the customer’s experience through supplemental content, storytelling and resources. The goal was to create a frictionless experience that enhanced both customer interactions and internal operations.

This ambitious project involved complex integrations and custom development, including the integration of Epicor ERP, complex faceted search and filter, custom-built visualization tooling, robust tooling for customer-designed samples, and a cohesive design (finely crafted by our friends at Brooklyn Digital Foundry) reflected across both platforms.

Project Goals
  • Minimize Administrative Overhead: Simplify site management to free up resources for innovation and customer engagement.
  • Enhance User Experience: Improve both front-end and back-end processes to elevate customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
  • Integrated Platform: Rebuild Designtex.com using BigCommerce for ecommerce functionality while leveraging WordPress for non-ecommerce content management, to unify the experience throughout the customer journey.
  • Support for Epicor Integration: Provide technical guidance for the Designtex team developing the Epicor and BigCommerce integration.
  • Advanced Visualization Tools: Integrate tooling for an immersive product visualization experience, enabling customers to explore and customize products.
  • Advanced Product Configurator Tool: Integrate and customize to create and order custom samples.
  • Data Migration: Establish a robust product data structure that supports complex faceted search and advanced PDP display and migrating existing product data into the new BigCommerce data structure smoothly and efficiently.
Our Plan

To achieve our goals, we broke the project into several development phases, each focusing on specific functionalities and integrations.

Platform Rebuild: We started by building a custom BigCommerce theme that seamlessly integrates with WordPress. This hybrid approach allowed Designtex to manage ecommerce and content separately while maintaining a consistent brand experience across the site.

Epicor Integration: Our team provided consultative support to Designtex as they developed a custom integration between Epicor ERP and BigCommerce. This integration ensures real-time data sync for inventory, orders, and customer information, reducing manual data entry and potential errors.

Product Visualizer: One of the standout features of the new Designtex site is the advanced product visualization. We developed custom UX/UI elements to integrate the visualizer into the product detail pages and a standalone product browse experience. Customers can now configure and visualize custom samples with ease, enhancing the online shopping experience.

Digital Studio Development: We collaborated closely with Designtex to develop the redesigned Digital Studio tooling. This tool allows customers to create and order custom samples within a framework of established patterns and options, with add-to-cart and checkout functions integrated into BigCommerce.

Streamlined Checkout and Account Management: We customized the BigCommerce checkout and account interfaces to meet Designtex’s unique requirements. This included custom fields for project information, estimated shipping overlays, and style adjustments to enhance user experience.

The Results
  • Efficient Operations: By integrating Epicor with BigCommerce, Designtex can now manage inventory, orders, and customer data more effectively, reducing administrative overhead and improving order accuracy.
  • Enhanced Customer Experience: The new site offers a more intuitive and immersive experience, with advanced visualization tools and a streamlined checkout process that mirrors the brand’s commitment to innovation and quality.
  • Data Migration: All product data was migrated to BigCommerce without a hitch, ensuring a smooth transition for both the Designtex team and their customers.
  • On-Time, On-Budget Delivery: Despite the complexity of the project, we delivered the new platform on time and within budget, meeting all of Designtex’s project goals.
